COURSE DESCRIPTION

The Swim........COURSE MAP
Olympic Triathlon = 1.5km
Sprint Triathlon = 750m

A 2 or 3 lap triangular swim course with a beach start. The swim caps (provided in race package) must be worn throughout the entire swim course to ensure safety of all athletes during this time. The volunteers will be onsite to patrol in the Arbour Lake motorized boat, as well as lifeguard volunteers in canoes and rowboats. Athletes are asked that if they are feeling any trouble or difficulty during the swim portion to either raise their hand and a volunteer medical staff in the boats will be there to assist you within seconds. .

The Bike........COURSE MAP
Olympic Triathlon & Duathlon= 40km
Sprint Triathlon = 20km

From transition, exit North along Arbour Lake Drive to Arbour Lake Way.  North on Nose Hill, East on Country Hills to Sarcee.  South on Sarcee to John Laurier (crossing Nose Hill) .  North on Arbour Crest Dr to begin next lap at Arbour Lake Drive.  This loop is exactly 10km! 4 laps for Olympic Tri & Du, 2 laps for sprint athletes.

Please keep in mind that the course will be open to vehicle traffic, and you are to treat this event as any other training ride and be very road wise while on the course. Vehicles will always have the right of way at intersections, and we will have volunteers as well as City of Calgary Police to stop traffic when athletes are approaching, but remember you are responsible for your own safety while out on the course, and accidents can happen. So please remember to look around you while on the course to foresee any unfortunate incidents that can occur. Remember to have fun on the course, and keep safety at the utmost priority (losing a second is better than a trip in the ambulance!)

The Merrell Run ........COURSE MAP

Olympic Triathlon & 1st Duathlon Run= 10km
Sprint Triathlon & 2nd Duathlon Run= 5km

The 2 (Sprint) or 4 (Olympic) lap course will wind in and around the Arbour Lake Community. From transition you will cross the street (Arbour Lake Drive) onto the sidewalk heading North (right) on the sidewalk through the intersection of Arbour Lake Drive & Arbour Lake Way. Turn West (left) onto Arbour Crest Drive up the hill. There will be a little out and back (approx. 300m) on Arbour Crest Mt. to make the 2.5km loop for the run course. After the out and back you will turn South (left) back onto Arbour Crest Drive and run downhill to the intersection of Arbour Crest Drive & Arbour Lake Road. Turning East (left) you will run on the sidewalk until you reach the intersection of John Laurier Blvd & Arbour Lake Drive where you will turn North (left) on the sidewalk to continue onto your next lap, or cross over the intersection and run along the other side of the road to the finish line area on your last lap.
You will be responsible to count your own laps on this run course, as we will not provide lap counters (there will be timing mats counting your laps as backup). There will be an aid station outside of the transition area with sport drink, and water, as well as another aid station stocked similarly at the out and back point on Arbour Crest Mt. at the turnaround point.
