LOCATION & PARKING

Miquelon Lake Provincial Park is located just 80km south-east of Edmonton (300km from Calgary and 40km from Camrose), this scenic provincial park is 3 km south of New Sarepta on Hwy. 21, then 20 km east on Hwy. 623.

There is ample parking within the park. Utilize the 'day use' area or overflow parking as directed by volunteers if arriving race morning. Please remember that all applicable parking rules are in effect, so ensure you adhere to the signs.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

The Swim........COURSE MAP
Half Iron = 1.9km
Olympic Triathlon = 1.5km
Sprint Triathlon = 750m
Tri it Triathlon =

The Half Iron swim consists of 1 large loop (1150m) plus a second smaller (750m) loop. The 1 lap (Sprint) or 2 lap (Olympic) triangular courses (clockwise) swim will be in the warm, and comfortable setting of Miquelon Lake. The swim caps (provided in race package) must be worn throughout the entire swim course to ensure safety of all athletes during this time. The course will be patrolled by kayaks, as well as lifeguard volunteers in rowboats. Athletes are asked that if they are feeling any trouble or difficulty during the swim portion to raise their hand and a volunteer medical staff will be there to assist you within seconds.

 

The Bike COURSE MAP

Half Iron = 84km
Olympic Triathlon = 43km
Sprint Triathlon = 21m
Tri it Triathlon = 10km
Duathlon = 43km

The bike course will travel along the quiet, well paved, secondary highways around Miquelon Lake. Leaving Transition you will follow the park road South to the Highway(1.5km). Athletes will head West on HWY 623 for 10km to Range Rd 215 and turn around.  Sprint athletes will return to the finish area (23km).  The remaining athletes will follow HWY 623 eastbound to the Junction of HWY 617 and turn Right. Following HWY 617, athletes will turnaround at Range Rd 212 to return to the finish area or begin their 2nd lap (Half Iron).


Please keep in mind that the course will be open to vehicle traffic, and you are to treat this event as any other training ride and be very road wise while on the course. Although we will have flagpersons to stop traffic, please remember that you are responsible for your own safety while out on the course.


So please remember to look around you while on the course to foresee any unfortunate incidents that can occur. Remember to have fun on the course, and keep safety as the utmost priority.

The Merrell Run ........COURSE MAP

Half Iron = 20km
Olympic Triathlon = 10km
Sprint Triathlon = 5km
Tri it Triathlon = 2.5km
Duathlon = 10km (first run) 5km (2nd run)

The run course will travel from the transition area and consist of 2 full laps (Half) of the 10km course. The course will follow paved, chip and grassed trails through Miquelon Park.

 

The aid stations will have Accelerade, water and various fruits and bagels.. Please be sure you drink lots of fluids on the bike course, as well as take advantage of the two aid stations on the run course for each lap. The weather can be unpredictable so please dress appropriately.
